Glendronach Revival 15 Year Old Original 2015 Release
The Glendronach 15 year old was one of their most popular expressions before its closure in 1996. Launched in 2009, the Revival was no less well-loved, and the news in 2015 that it was to be discontinued was met with much dismay. The distillery's mothballing between 1996 and 2001 meant that the maturing stock in the warehouses eventually ran too thin to sustain it until the post 2002 stocks could catch up. This 2015 bottling actually contains 19-20 year old whiksy.
After three years Glendronach’s 15-year-old expression returned in 2018 at an actual age of 15 years old.
Aptly named, the expression did indeed undergo a 'Revival,' re-launched in 2018. This is the 2015 version and although they are packaged as the same product, they are two subtly different whiskies. The current Revival is a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry cask malt, whereas this original is exclusively matured in the former. Pre-1996 distilled Glendronach like this also has a gentle peat influence due to its use in the first few hours in the malt kiln when the distillery still did its own in-house malting. This is no longer the case.
