The Story

Keller Abts E 2009

Weingut Keller is an esteemed German wine producer located in the Rheinhessen in the municipality of Flörsheim-Dalsheim. The estate's origins date back to 1789 when Johann Leonhard Keller acquired property at the esteemed Hubacker vineyard – a classified Erste Lage by the VDP. The family-owned and operated business has been managed by Klaus Peter Keller since 2001.

The estate is best known for its range of critically acclaimed Riesling wines, and in particular, it's dry (trocken) bottlings, led by G-Max Riesling. This is produced from low-yielding, old vines and has received top scores from a number of critics.

It is one of the most expensive dry Riesling wines in the world. Weingut Keller is also increasingly recognized for its Spätburgunder.

Riesling and Spätburgunder are sourced from from some of the top vineyards in the Rheinhessen including Grosses Gewächs from Hubacker and Bürgel in Dalsheim and the Kirchspiel, Morstein and Abtserde vineyards (the latter is sold as "Abst E®.de") in Westhofen.

The estate is most famously linked to the Hubacker vineyard – four hectares (10 acres) of the property have remained in the Keller family for ten generations. The site faces south and southeast on a slope composed of limestone and marl soils.

The oldest plantings of Riesling on this parcel date to 1974.
